My first bitter gourd from the backyard The bitter melon (also known as bitter gourd ) looks like a cucumber but with ugly gourd-like bumps all over it. As the name implies, this vegetable is a melon that is bitter. There are two varieties of this vegetable: One grows to about 20 cm long, is oblong and pale green in color. The other is the smaller variety, less than 10 cm long, oval and has a darker green color . Both varieties have seeds that are white when unripe and that turn red when they are ripe. The vegetable-fruit turn reddish-orange when ripe and becomes even more bitter. Bitter gourd thrives in hot and humid climates, so are commonly found in Asian countries and South America. Westerners may not be so used to bitter melons, so may find them more difficult to consume. But if you can generally take bitter taste, you may be able to take this too. Last week, we picked up an apparently abandoned kitten. It's a female, around 1 to 2 months old. Appears to be healthy. She was so funny! She is an white,brown, and black color with big brown eyes. Nowadays, wherever i go..people start complaining about how difficult their life are . Everything needs money. Everything getting more expensive day by day. Fuel cost is increasing. Groceries prices are rising and so on. Living in a village make me realized how lucky i am. We can save our money in many ways. Things are not as expensive as other area. We also can grow our own food on the backyard. Gardening became a daily activities for my parent. They plant ginger, turmeric, lemon grass, papaya , chili, tomatoes, winged bean , tapioca etc. Growing your own food can be done, but you will be at the mercy of nature, in the form of pests and weather, either of which can destroy whole crops in a remarkably short time. Yan is my hometown. Located in Kedah , about 50 km from Alor Setar and 30 km from Sungai Petani. There are a lot beautiful places and waterfall at this area but the most popular waterfall is Titi Hayun Waterfall. It's about 15minutes from my house.This recreational forest got its name from the suspension bridge ("Titi") Titi Hayun "Titi" mean bridge It is strategically located at the starting point of the steps to the peak of Gunung Jerai which is known as Tangga Kenari Seribu Tahun. An interesting one kilometer hike through natural forest (jungle track) leads to the Puteri Mandi waterfalls. There is a wide variety of flora and fauna of lowland dipterocarp forest .
